Consultations and Treatments
Initial Consultation

This holistic approach is at the very core of TCM and improves treatment outcomes because it tackles conditions at the root cause rather than just easing symptoms temporarily. The aim is always to bring the body back into the balance of good health and wellbeing, naturally free from disease.

I provide a free initial consultation after which we can discuss your individual treatment requirements. Alternatively I am more than happy to answer questions or chat informally over the phone to help you decide if acupuncture or other therapies are right for you.
The initial consultation is a very important aspect of the Traditional Chinese Medical approach to healthcare. During this visit the TCM practitioner will take your pulse and medical history and enquire all about the nature of your symptoms. This enables a clear understanding of your health in general, including the many factors that may be contributing to your current condition and symptoms.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the mainstay of treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine. For more information on how it works please click here. In the Jack Chan Clinic we recommend acupuncture for most clients. The TCM practitioner creates an acupuncture 'points prescription' for each individual, choosing the precise acupoints that will best treat their specific condition. This prescription will change as the treatment progresses and the symptoms begin to improve.

Usually a combination of points is used for 2 purposes: firstly to address the specific condition the client is suffering from and secondly to improve the client's general health and energy levels. Most people feel a deep sense of wellbeing and relaxation after acupuncture. The effects are cumulative, meaning they increase and build over time with each subsequent treatment. The price of each treatment is usually £50. It is sometimes possible to incorporate two treatments in one session ( for example over 90 minutes) for a lower price per treatment.
Massage
In Traditional Chinese Medicine we use a special form of massage called Tui Na. It is a fairly vigorous treatment performed with the clothes on and without oils. Tui Na uses the same basic principles as acupuncture. The practitioner uses his hands and fingers to apply pressure to acupoints on the body which induces healing and rebalance. It also involves deep stretching techniques to improve mobility and flexibility.

Tui Na has obvious benefits for all musculoskeletal conditions because of the deep stretches that can be achieved. What many people don't realise however is that this enjoyable treatment benefits all systems in the body and is a powerful form of detoxification and rejuvenation. Typically clients report feeling revitalised and energetic after having Tui Na. Treatments are £40 and last approx 1 hour.
